First Lego League is a robotics program for middle school students ages 12-16. The league develops a challenge that consists of two parts: research project and robot programming. Some of the challenges have been Food Factor, Senior Solutions, and Nature’s Fury. Each year there is a district competition in Bethel. The top two teams can advance to the state tournament.
Teams are made up of 2 to 10 members. The group members develop a research project that helps to solve a problem. Usually the problem solving is community based so students can really invent or create something that can be used locally. The teams also work on robot programming. Each year there is a different game board and students need to problem solve to create programs that will complete specific tasks in order to earn points. Members of the team need to be creative, hard working, good at problem solving, and work well together. FLL is a great starter program for anyone interested in robotics.
